what

  • agency

Our real estate agents are not just informed about the market, they live and breathe the urban landscape. We are an atypical brokerage with a group of agents who are as diverse, lively and distinctive as the neighborhoods they live & work in. And because we are a full service marketing firm with DC's most viewed real estate website and blog, we know how to get your message out like no one else.

  • website

You're not alone. Over 1,000 people visit our website every day to research, buy or sell property. Our unique and innovative brand sets the tone for all that we do. We don't look like everyone else because we are not like anyone else.

  • blog

We write DC's most revealing real estate blog, DCMud, the daily digest of urban real estate development, architecture, retail news, homes for sale and industry leader profiles. You're probably already one of the 3,000 people who read us every weekday. And if you're not, you should be.

  • newsletter

Our newsletters go out twice a week to approximately 30,000 people including agents, buyers, sellers, developers, architects and real estate junkies. We believe that having over 100 new subscribers each week proves that people have entirely too much free time on their hands.

  • marketing & sales

Whether you're a client with one property to sell or a developer with a thousand units to sell, we combine the graphics of a marketing firm with the focus of a real estate firm. Add to that a passion for knowing and marketing the urban landscape with unsurpassed customer service and you have DC's most innovative brokerage.

how

  • we do things differently

Everyone says the same thing: we're good, we've been doing this for years, we can market and sell your property. But do they have as much passion for selling your property as you do? Or do you have the nagging suspicion that you are just one more customer in their series of listings and once the ink is dry, the Big Fancy Agent will leave, their team will slip into factory mode and you'll become just another listing to them.

  • details matter

We all know the standard marketing package: cheap photographer, badly designed brochure and some open houses. But you haven't experience our obsessive attention to every detail. This is how we launch you into the market as one-of-a-kind, using our strength with DC's most visited real estate websites.

  • passionate marketing

There's creativity, passion and wanting to be the best. There's understanding the client for your property. Then helping them fall in love. And knowing how to keep the romance alive until settlement.

who

  • Ken Johnson founded DCRE as a real estate database in 2004, and co-founded the marketing company and DCMud in 2006. Prior to giving in to his real estate fixation, Ken practiced tax and corporate law in San Francisco, having studied law at Georgetown University and the University of San Francisco. Ken's previous positions include a clerkship at the California Court of Appeal, a State Department position at the U.S. Consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, and a position as a Legislative Analyst for the Federal Communications Comission in Washington, DC. Ken received his B.A. from the University of Connecticut, his native state, and lives in the District of Columbia.  Ken now edits and produces Washington DC's most successful real estate blog and website, and consults on real estate design, marketing and development.  t. 202.588.1408

  • Sheila Simkin has 12 years of residential real estate experience in Washington, DC and Chicago. She grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and after receiving a design degree from FIT in New York, ran her own clothing design firm where she cultivated an obsessive eye for detail and learned to translate her clients' visions into reality. Using the same skills to co-found a real estate marketing firm, Sheila's quest was to transcend her competitors (she is the youngest of 10 and therefore very competitive) and create the dominant real estate firm in the city based upon creativity, passion and hard work. In the 4 hours of the day she's not obsessing over real estate, she relaxes on her deck overlooking Logan Circle.  t. 202.588.1407
